Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) contributes to the personal, academic, and artistic growth of Los Angeles youth ages 8-25 from all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Programs including the Debut Orchestra, Chamber Music Series, Music Mentors, Harp In Our Public Schools Project, and annual competitions promote music education through performance opportunities, financial assistance, and community outreach. YMF programs benefit hundreds of youth participants (over 300 in 2011-12) and thousands of concertgoers each year. YMF’s outreach efforts bring music instruction and Debut Orchestra concerts to schools that have little or no in-school music education, opening a new world of music to students and building school and family community.
The National Endowment for the Arts reports that students who have arts-rich experiences in school do better academically and become more engaged citizens. YMF consults with school administrators, academic teachers and the Los Angeles County Office of Education to bring musical opportunities to underserved youth in their own schools and to encourage multi-level community engagement. The Viva la Art! fundraiser will help YMF put music in the hands of students who benefit from it most.
