Laughter for a Change (L4C) uses improvisational comedy training as a fun path to learning, healing, and a sense of wellbeing in individuals and communities in need in Los Angeles. Through improv training, participants laugh, learn and practice lessons in teamwork, leadership, problem solving, collaboration, communication. L4C Comedy Mentors lead youth workshops serving former gang members, middle-schoolers at Koreatown Youth & Community Center, and first and second-generation American kids at RFK Community Schools in mid-town L.A. Also, L4C has improv workshops at the West LA Veterans’ Medical Center with Vets suffering post-traumatic stress. L4C's seniors’ troupe, “The Spring Chickens” performs at elder care facilities.
L4C will use these funds to help expand our improv comedy programs to more underserved communities. Funding specifically will support public performances by program participants, who gain discipline and self-confidence putting on a show, as well as extend the benefits of laughter to their families and communities. Funds will also support the recording of L4C’s curriculum to video, for sharing with communities here and around the world, further extending the proven positive effects of L4C’s work.
